The General Tax Authority (GTA) organized a specialized workshop titled “Implementation of Excise Tax under the Tiered Volumetric Model” to raise awareness among companies about the upcoming excise tax on sweetened drinks, which will take effect on 6 July 2026. The session detailed the tiered volumetric model, explaining key components such as the tax implementation mechanism, registration procedures for companies and taxable goods, obligations of taxable entities, product registration requirements, and transitional provisions that will facilitate a smooth shift to the new system. Interactive discussion segments allowed participants to pose questions and receive clarifications on regulatory and practical aspects, thereby enhancing their understanding of compliance requirements and procedural nuances. This workshop is part of a broader series of awareness initiatives launched by the GTA to increase tax literacy, familiarize businesses with the new excise tax framework, and ensure seamless transition for stakeholders. By providing comprehensive information on procedural steps, registration processes, and transitional measures, the Authority aims to reduce administrative burdens, promote accurate tax collection, and support taxpayers in meeting their obligations without undue hardship. The initiative reflects the GTA’s commitment to transparent, clear, and efficient tax administration, aligning with Qatar’s digital transformation objectives and the overall goal of improving the taxpayer experience while maintaining a robust and sustainable tax system that supports economic development.
