The General Tax Authority (GTA) has inaugurated the nationally recognised Certified Tax Specialist Programme, a strategic initiative designed to develop national competencies and enhance the capabilities of tax professionals, thereby supporting the advancement and transformation of Qatar’s tax sector. The programme enhances technical expertise across key domains such as income tax, value‑added tax, and excise tax, aligning curricula with internationally recognised standards and best practices to ensure relevance and quality. Delivered through intensive in‑person sessions, the programme culminates in a proctored electronic examination that assesses participants’ mastery of the material, providing a credible certification that is accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). The curriculum encompasses tax fundamentals, compliance frameworks, global tax developments, reporting obligations, and transfer‑pricing concepts, complemented by practical applications that reflect real‑world professional scenarios. Initially targeted at GTA employees, the programme will subsequently be opened to external tax professionals, with coordination efforts underway to partner with local training centres and expand knowledge dissemination among specialists and relevant entities. By fostering specialised skills and professional certifications, the initiative aims to improve the capabilities and competitiveness of national talent, contributing to the development of a flexible, highly efficient tax system that meets global expectations. This effort supports the Authority’s broader agenda to strengthen professional skills, institutional knowledge, and adoption of best practices, thereby advancing Qatar’s vision for a robust, sustainable, and internationally aligned tax environment.
