The 28th Oceania Customs Organisation (OCO) Annual Conference, hosted by the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) at the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa in Natadola from 2‑4 June 2026, convened customs leaders from 21 Pacific nations to reinforce regional collaboration against trans‑national crime. The gathering, themed “Scaling Up the Commitment of Customs to Protect and Grow our Pasifika Communities,” underscored Fiji’s stewardship of the OCO and its dedication to advancing shared priorities in border protection, trade facilitation and customs modernisation. In his opening remarks, FRCS Chief Executive Officer and outgoing OCO Chair, Mr Udit Singh, highlighted Fiji’s leadership role, emphasizing capacity‑building initiatives, partnership with New Zealand Customs and the Pacific Leadership Programme, and the importance of intelligence‑driven enforcement. Delegates exchanged updates on operational challenges, discussed emerging concealment techniques used by organised crime networks, and examined case studies involving the smuggling of methamphetamine precursors hidden in innocuous items such as picture frames and fabrics. Interactive sessions, including a question‑and‑answer forum, facilitated knowledge exchange and reinforced the need for coordinated intelligence‑sharing frameworks and capacity‑building across the region. The conference concluded with the election of new OCO leadership, welcoming Mr Tekaie Ititaake of Kiribati as Chair and Mr Jose Mafnas of the Northern Mariana Islands as Vice Chair, reflecting Fiji’s continued influence in shaping a unified Pacific customs agenda.
